The Maker Movement is making its way to the Saville LMS! In our brand-new Makerspace, which is currently under construction, students will be able to create objects and explore concepts using building and craft materials. “As the first student struggles in the design, another shares a solution he or she has used or is currently using. Then together the students work to overcome the obstacle; in this case one student is the classical “learner,” while the other is the classical “teacher.” Yet as the students collaborate to meet the challenge, they are both actively engaged in learning and teaching new concepts to each other. All the while the adult teacher observes from the outside, remaining out of the picture unless further rigor becomes necessary. The primary objective of the teacher in this case is to facilitate the acquisition of concepts by building a specific project. This is the ideal learning environment of an educational makerspace”

To provide items students need for this endeavor please consider donating the following items: paper towel tubes, popsicle sticks, glue sticks, hot glue guns, bottle caps, tape, empty egg cartons, cereal boxes, string, fabric, rubber bands, markers, ribbon, toothpicks, lids off of any container, empty and clean soup cans, colored paper, scrapbook paper, buttons, old Legos etc.  These items will be organized and placed on two book carts that are being transformed into mobile Makerspace carts that the students can utilize before, during and after school.

What is a Makerspace?

A makerspace is a physical location where kids gather to share resources and knowledge, work on projects, get to know each other, and build.  It's a perfect way to make new friends, create new things, and learn how to work well with others.
