In 1987, the Nevada Department of Education began a statewide initiative for Nevada teachers and librarians to celebrate reading through shared thematic activities. Nevada Reading Week usually begins during the last week of February and coincides with the birthday of Dr. Seuss.

The library and ELA teachers will have blank bookmarks available for decoration. Students must decorate the bookmark to reflect the reading week theme: Camp READ - Nevada USA.  There will be one 6th, 7th, and 8th grade winner and a STAFF winner too. Please create your bookmark in black ink or pencil.  No colors please.  Turn your bookmark into Mrs. Savage by 3:00 on Thursday, March 2ndWinners will be announced on Wednesday, March 8th and will receive an award ribbon and book.  Winning bookmarks will be printed and distributed in the library.

Calling all Saville poets! We’re on the lookout for poems of all styles – rhyming, free verse, haiku, and more–for the 2016 Nevada Reading Week Poetry Contest! Create a poem around the Nevada Reading Week theme: Camp READ - Nevada USA.  Poems must be submitted to Mrs. Savage in the library by 3:30 on March 2nd.  One winner from each grade will receive an award ribbon and treat.

 Spirit Days for Reading Week 2016:

Monday: Character/Video Game Day- Wear your favorite character or gaming shirt.

Tuesday: Trail Mix Tuesday- Mix it up with mismatched clothes, socks, boots or sneakers.

Wednesday: Read a T-Shirt/Camp Shirt Day- Wear a shirt you can read and/or your favorite flannel or camp shirt.

Thursday: Emoji/Social Media/Snapchat Filter Day:
Wear your favorite emoji gear or accessorize your attire to reflect your favorite Snapchat filter or social media app.

Friday: Wake-Up Friday (A.K.A PJ Day) - Dress up in your pajamas.

Students and staff will listen to Nevada Reading Week themed trivia questions on the daily announcements. If ANYONE (not a class) knows the title of book the passage is from, he or she must write down the answer and bring it to the library before lunch that day. Students must write his or her answer on a piece of scratch paper with his or her name, student number and grade. Mrs. Savage will draw one correct answer from each grade level each day. The winner will receive a prize. All winners will be announced on Wednesday, March 8th during the morning announcements.
