Teen Read Week™ is a time to celebrate reading for fun. Strong reading skills are more critical than ever because it can translate into better performance at school. I would like to encourage our teens and tweens to take time to read multiple forms of literature by reading fiction, non-fiction, magazines, e-books, comic books and more! Students at Saville are invited to celebrate Teen Read Week™ from October 10th -14th by entering several contests, participating in activities, checking out books from the library, and reading just for the fun of it.
Bookmark Contest: The library and ELA teachers will have blank bookmarks available for decoration. Students may decorate the bookmark to reflect the Teen Read Week theme: Dare to Read for the Fun of It. There will be one 6th, 7th, and 8th grade winner and a STAFF winner too. Please create your bookmark in black ink or pencil. No colors please. Turn your bookmark into Mrs. Savage by 3:00 on Thursday, October 13th. Winners will be announced on Tuesday, October 18th.
Teen Read Week Poetry Contest:
Calling all Saville poets! We’re on the lookout for poems of all styles

announced on Tuesday, October 18th during the morning announcements.
"Shelfie" Photo Contest: Students, teachers, and staff are encouraged to take a "selfie" with a book in front of a bookshelf for our reading week photo contest and share it with Mrs. Savage at savageja@nv.ccsd.net. If ANYONE (not a class) knows what book the passage is from, he or she can write down the answer and bring it to the library before lunch that day. Students must write his or her answer on a piece of scratch paper with his or her name and grade. Mrs. Savage will draw one correct answer from each grade level each day. The winner will receive a prize. All winners will be announced on Tuesday, October 18th during the morning announcements. There will be one 6th, 7th, and 8th grade winner and a STAFF winner too.
